In the hustle and bustle of today’s responsibility we can find ourselves dealing with a lot. At times it can be hard to pull away to sit at the feet of Jesus, to hear him. The story of Martha and Mary is very profound in that it speaks to this very situation. Luke 10-38-42 NIV.
One day after work, I was walking to my car thinking of all the things that I had to do that evening. I heard God so gently and quietly remind me to come and sit at his feet for in my presence there’s fullness of joy!
I was “wowed” by this request from him. It’s easy to get caught up in the day to day, with a to-do list. He is such an amazing Father that he knows exactly what we need and when we need it. This was a day that I was feeling weary. I needed to be refreshed and renewed in my spirit. Today, Lord says don’t forget to include me in your list of “Things” that has to be completed.
This is one of the many rewards that we are given when we are alone and one with God. Not only are we refreshed and renewed but we hear from God in the stillness of moment. There is peace that cannot be explained and there is a joy that flows like a river. Psalm 16:11 KJV. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. We are given directions and instructions; we receive the answers to the things that are on our minds and so many more pleasures that come with the one on one with God.
Martha was more concerned with preparing the meal for her guest, but Mary was more interested in hearing what the guest of honor had to say in which was better the bible says. “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” NIV.
Whew she chose what was better! The better was and still is sitting at the feet of Jesus. When we don’t know what to do or how to do it, when we can’t seem to make sense of it all we can get what we need by choosing what is Better!
It’s at his feet! The Stillness of the Moment.
